Volt Works Let's talk

Home / What we do / AI receptionist

The calls you can't take, taken.

You're up a ladder, under a sink, or with a customer. The phone rings anyway. It gets picked up in your voice, answers what you'd answer, takes the job details, books it, and then tells you exactly what happened.

How it works

A missed call is somebody else's job.

The most expensive thing your phone does
What normally happens

It rings out. They don't leave a voicemail. They ring the next name on the list.

By the time you've climbed down and called back, the job has already been quoted by whoever picked up. It wasn't lost on price. It was lost on a ringtone.

This is the part nobody sells you. A web firm builds the site. An SEO firm gets you found. Both of them consider their job finished the moment the phone rings — which is the exact moment yours starts going wrong.

Answering is not a technology problem. It's a staffing problem you can't afford to solve with staff. So it gets solved with an answering machine, which is to say it doesn't get solved.

How it works

Set up in an afternoon, off in a second

What it handles.

The calls that make up most of your week

01 / On the call

The ordinary, repetitive stuff that eats your day and costs you jobs when nobody's there for it.

New enquiries

Takes the name, number, address, and what the job actually is — not "call me back" with no context. You get the details before you decide whether to ring.

Booking and rescheduling

Checks real availability and puts it in the diary. Moves an appointment without a phone call and without double-booking you.

The same six questions

Are you open Saturday. Do you come out to my area. How much roughly. How soon can someone look. Where are you. Do you take card.

Out of hours

Evenings, weekends, the hour you're eating. People ring trades when they get home from work, which is precisely when nobody is at a desk.

Two calls at once

It doesn't queue and it doesn't get flustered. Storm week and Monday morning are the same to it.

Follow-through

The call feeds straight into quote follow-up and reminders, so an enquiry doesn't quietly die between the phone and your notebook.

02 / What you keep control of

An AI answering your phone is only worth having if you can see it and steer it.

Recordings and transcripts

Every call, logged and readable. You can check a conversation in ten seconds instead of wondering what it told someone.

Same-day script changes

If it handled something badly, tell us and we fix the wording that day. It gets better because you correct it, not because we promise it will.

Your voice, your rules

How it greets people, what it's allowed to quote, what it must never discuss, when it hands over. All yours, in writing.

On and off in seconds

Run it all year, only after hours, or only in your busy season. Turning it off takes effect immediately.

A text after every call

A one-line summary of who rang and what they wanted, so you're never surprised by a booking you didn't know about.

Your number stays yours

We sit alongside your existing line. If you ever stop, your phone simply rings like it did before.

What it won't do.

Worth reading before you buy one of these from anyone

It's one part of the chain.

Found, called, booked — the phone is the middle bit

The receptionist is available on its own, or bundled into a plan with the site, the listings and the follow-up. See the plans.

Questions

Can't see yours? Email [email protected]
Does it pretend to be a real person?

No. If a caller asks, it says it's the assistant and offers to put them through or take a message. We think the alternative is a bad way to start a relationship with a customer, and regulators increasingly agree.

Do I have to change my phone number?

No. You keep your number and it keeps ringing your phone. We sit behind it and catch what you don't pick up — after hours, during a job, or every call, whichever you set.

What if it gets something wrong?

You'll see it, because every call is recorded and transcribed. Tell us and we change the script the same day. It's a script you control, not a black box you hope behaves.

Will it sound like a robot?

Judge it yourself. On the call we'll ring you with it live so you can ask it awkward questions before you decide anything. If you don't like how it sounds, don't buy it — and we'd rather you tell us that than find out from a customer.

Can I use it only in my busy season?

Yes. Weather-driven trades often run it hard for a few months and switch it off the rest of the year. It's a module, not a hostage situation — add it or drop it as your year goes.

What happens to the recordings?

They're yours, kept in your account, and they leave with you if you leave. We don't sell data and we don't use your calls for anything other than running your phone.

Hear it before you decide.

Fifteen minutes. We'll ring you with it live, you ask it the questions your customers ask, and you tell us straight whether you'd let it near your phone.
